HUD’s Small Area Fair Market Rent (SAFMR)
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has designated multiple metropolitan areas subject to the mandatory use of HUD’s Small Area Fair Market Rent (SAFMR) final rule. Manatee County Housing Authority (MCHA) is in a metropolitan area and mandated to implement SAFMR’s.
The SAFMR’s are Fair Market Rents (FMRs) calculated at the area Zip Code level, rather than for entire metropolitan region. MCHA is integrating HUD’s new SAFMR requirement, and it requires important changes in the way MCHA operates the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program.
